Plant Spacing Calculator
Estimate rows and plant capacity for square-grid or staggered layouts with an explicit edge margin.
How the estimate works
Usable dimensions subtract two edge margins; positions are counted at each declared spacing interval.
Worked example
A 4-by-4-foot bed with 12-inch spacing and 6-inch margins fits 16 plants in a square grid.
Assumptions
- Bed dimensions and spacing describe the same rectangular planting area.
Limitations
- Paths, irrigation hardware, crop spread, and access needs may reduce practical capacity.
